Governor Kathy Hochul has initiated a "distraction-free schools" policy in New York State, which includes a "bell-to-bell" ban on smartphone use in K-12 schools. To follow New York State policy, students in grades Pre-K to fourth grade should have their devices turned off and placed in their backpacks. Southampton schools will be giving Yondr pouches to all students in grades 5-8 who possess a smart device such as a cell phone, smart watch or ear buds.
