Southampton Elementary School buzzed with excitement as students participated in an annual Career Day event on May 2. The building-wide event, organized by the school’s counseling department, broadened students’ understanding of different careers and the value of education.
Students heard from 25 community members from diverse vocations who not only explained their job responsibilities, but also emphasized the importance of perseverance, curiosity and pursuing one’s dreams. Students also asked insightful questions about their daily routines, education and career paths.
“Career Day gives our students a real-world connection to their learning and a chance to see themselves in roles they might never have imagined,” said school counselor Gwen Arnzen, who coordinated the event.
Among the vocations represented were physician, EMT/firefighter, county legislator, global research and development manager, food and beverage director, chef, arborist, carpenter, business owner, producer, journalist, photographer, filmmaker, dancer, recruiter, peace officer, police officer, farmer, tree trimmer, outreach coordinator, pianist, therapy dog trainer, sports coach and cleaning service owner.
